How Much Value Does a Conservatory or Orangery Add to a Home?
There’s no denying that a conservatory or orangery makes a fantastic investment for your property.
Not only will it give you more space to enjoy in your home – perfect for growing families – as well as somewhere additional to relax and unwind, but it can also add value to your property too.
So, whether you’re looking to sell in the near future, or making an investment for the future, a conservatory or orangery is a good purchase to make.
But how do they add value to your property? And which is the better choice?
What’s the difference?
Before we start, it’s important to understand the difference between an orangery and a conservatory.
They are both largely glass structures, but with a number of key differences, which does impact the amount of value they will add to your home.
While each can be used as an additional living space within your home, an orangery is modelled on the traditional Georgian orangeries. These were large glass structures, usually in stately homes, and used to house exotic plants brought back from the British exploration of the globe.
In modern terms, they tend to be built with a brick base, have wider pillars and a flat roof with a lantern at the centre. This gives them a more robust feel to other types of conservatory.
How much value does a conservatory add?
A bright, modern conservatory that is new or has been regularly cleaned, will give your house a much more attractive appearance. And because it essentially creates an additional room within your house, it increases the amount of space you have to sell to your prospective buyer.
A conservatory costing between £4,000 and £10,000, could add around 5% to 10% to the value of your home.
How much value does an orangery add?
Because of its solid structure, an orangery can represent a significant investment for your home, but, if done correctly, it will add almost as much value to your property as a full extension, but for a fraction of the cost.
